- Mounted black and white photograph taken of the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, as viewed from an elevated positioned across Griswold Street to the southwest. Icicles hang from the building's facade and surrounding utility lines, and rubble has settled around its base. A ladder apparatus, and a fire engine are on Griswold, near the northeastern end of the building. Several figures dot the streets. The sign for the Griswold Street Theatre is visible on the right edge of the frame. A moonlight tower is visible down State Street on the left edge of the frame. The photo is mounted on a cardboard backing, with the following handwritten on the verso: Jan 27, 1893 Detroit Central High School Fire 18 Engine Companies in the Dept. Active 8 Ladder Companies " " 4 Chemical Companies

- Sepia-toned albumen photo of eleven firefighters of Ladder Company No.1 who are shown in front of the old Fire Department Headquarters building at Wayne (now Washington Blvd.) and Larned Streets. A newspaper article is glued to the mounting cardboard to the right of the photo and is entitled at the top, "Old Fire Department Building Being Razed." A label beneath the photo shows "The Old Makes Way For The New." Also a handwritten note in pencil in the lower right corner shows "Taken 1893, Ladder 1." Handwriting on the verso notes "No. 1 - Hook and Ladder Truck and Company. 3 Horse Team. This picture must be handled with care - belongs to Capt. of No. 1 and is prized of course. Return to Burns in A1 order." Another note shows "Right to Left: 1. Capt. McGraw, 2. Morrison, 3. Sullivan, 4. Creegan, 5. Obrien, 6. ---------, 7. C. Klein?, 8. Joe Clements, 9. Jack Alexander; Stub McCumber-driver." The fireman who is seated at the tiller at the rear of the ladder truck is not identified.

- Sepia-toned glossy photo of a painting or drawing which shows the first Detroit Fire Department headquarters building. The picture shows a 3-story brick building with a watchtower. A horse-drawn ladder wagon is visible in the foreground. A signature in the lower left corner of the drawing shows "D. A. McCormick - Del., 1880." The estimated date of the photo is based upon the image depicted and is not based upon when the drawing was made or when the photo was taken.

- Mounted black and white panoramic image of the fire tug JAMES BATTLE being used to fight the fire which claimed the Belle Isle Bridge on April 27, 1915, created from two overlapping photos. Firefighters stand at the bow of the BATTLE, on the right side of the frame with its port side to the camera and the Detroit shore of the Detroit River, while smoke rises from the remaining trusses of the bridge on the right. Several bare columns, and another smoldering truss are visible further across the river in the background. The caption, "Burning of the Belle Isle Bridge, April 27, 1915," is printed along the bottom of the mat board.

Noted at the base of the image is the photographer, "Friend & Smith, 244 & 246 Woodward Ave., Detroit." Written on verso, "Dick Brownell." Brownell was a ladderman with the Detroit Fire Department.

- A mounted, sepia-toned photographic print of a horse drawn fire engine (sans horses), presumably manufactured by Lee and Larned of New York, taken in front of a firehouse with a small crowd of onlookers. "First Steam Fire Engine made by Lee & Las'ned (sic) New York, Exhibited in Detroit - 1859" handwritten on top of matting. A red bordered sticker, likely a price tag, with the number 20 is adhered to the upper right corner of the image. A partial piece of paper with a letter head from the Office of the Supply Agent of the Fire Commission of Detroit is pasted onto the verso. Handwritten there in pencil is the following, "first steam fire engine made by Lee & Las'men (sic) New York exhibited in Detroit 1859. Photograph presented by B. E. Marvin, Green Bay Wis. November 1895."

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Detroit Fire Commissioner Peter Henkel. Handwriting on the verso notes "ex-commissioner, Peter Henkel." This photograph is one of a series of eight photos of former Detroit Fire Department Commissioners. The decorative logo of the photographer's studio (Randall) has been torn off of the verso of the cabinet card photo. The proof bears the name of "Geo. Francis Train" at the bottom, and a stamp for "Randall, 220 & 222 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich.," is shown on the verso.
