- Merritt & Bailey Shoes at 112 North Washington Avenue, Christian Supply Center upstairs at 112 1/2, National Distributors at 114, and Public Loan Corporation at 114 1/2 are seen. - Elevated view looking east from the Commerce Center Building. The parking ramp owned by Michigan National Bank at 231 South Capitol Avenue is seen in the foreground. Also seen is the roof of Knapp's department store at 300 South Washington Avenue and shops along the 200 block of South Washington Avenue and East Washtenaw. In the distant background can be seen Lansing Board of Water and Light water treatment facilities on South Cedar Street, warehouses on East Michigan Avenue, Sparrow Hospital further out on East Michigan Avenue, and buildings at Boy's Training School on North Pennsylvania Avenue.

- In the 400 block of Washington Avenue South. The F. N. Arbaugh Company store was located at 401-423 South Washington Avenue, on the east side of the street.

- Looking north. From a vantage point at 220 South Washington in front of Walgreen Drugs, seen are S. S. Kresge at 216, Barker's Shoe Store at 214, Carl's Shoe Store at 212, and Linn's Camera Shop at 210. Several blocks of the east side of South Washington are also seen. Highlights include Small's Mens Shop at 211, the Foo Ying Cafe on the upper level at 207 1/2 - 209 1/2, Daniel's Jewelry Co. at 205 and Bosch jewelers at 201. In the next block, the 100 block, the American Bank & Trust building is prominent. City Planning Division staff annotated and trimmed the photo. The basis for the annotation, "against the law?" is unknown.

- An annotation indiciates Sibyl's at 123 West Washtenaw Street. Knapp's department store is on the left or south side of West Washtenaw Street. Beyond it are Linn & Owen Jewelers at 121, Sibyl Hats at 123, and Jon Anthony flowers ar 127 West Washtenaw Street. - Seen from Michigan Avenue East. Looking north, W. T. Grant and the Tussing Building are seen on the west side of North Washington Avenue. The rounded roofline of the Mead Hall is seen on the east side of the block. Many people are on the sidewalks. In this photograph, construction has begun to convert the Princess Vogue shop to be part of Kositchek's clothing store. City Planning Division staff trimmed the photo and annotated its face.

- Numerous signs are seen along the east side of South Washington Avenue: Porter's women's clothing at 105, Liebermann Trunk Company at 107, Lansing Camera Shop at 109, Stamp-Rite Marking Devices at 111 1/2, Two Legs men's clothing at 115, and National Peanut Corp. at 117. On the opposite side of South Washington Avenue, Woolworth's at Allegan Street and Knapps at Washtenaw Street are in good focus. Several blocks of South Washington Avenue fill the rest of the image. Bright sunlight and deep shadow characterize the photograph. City Planning Division staff trimmed the photo on one side.
