- Description:
- Born in 1863, Bertha Van Hoosen went on to become a world-renowned surgeon. During her 61-year career, she traveled to universities and hospitals around the world lecturing and demonstrating the medical techniques she developed and perfected. Her list of accomplishments includes the development of the anesthesia Scopolamine Morphine, for use during childbirth, the buttonhole appendectomy, the founding of the American Medical Women's Association, and the use of sterile conditions during surgery. Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen died in 1952 but her family home is now the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm.

- Description:
- Twelve member graduating class of 1868. In 1932 James Howard McCotter was the only surviving member in the picture, he was 88 years old. James was the father of Howard K. McCotter and the grandfather of Lee N. McCotter. Both James and Harold went on to work as superintendents at the Ferry-Morse Seed Company's farm in Avon Township, Oakview. - Also called Mount Moriah, this was the site of the first dedicated Masonic Lodge building in Michigan. Previous to 1847, the Lodge met at various locations around Stoney Creek. - Description:
- The home of Howard K. McCotter, located across from the greenhouses at Oakview, near East Hamlin Road. The D.M. Ferry Company, later known as the Ferry-Morse Seed Company, expanded operations from Detroit to Avon Township in 1902. Oakview Farm comprised the area between South Rochester Road, East Hamlin Road, John R Road, and East Auburn Road. In 1912, the company increased the size of the farm northward, so that it reached to East Avon Road. Oakview was the site of the company’s trial grounds and stock seed breeding operations until 1944.
