- Description:
- These records from the Lansing Business Men's Association document some of the organization's activities in helping to establish Lansing as the home of several strong industries in the early 20th century. Although the records are incomplete and sometimes fragmentary, minutes, memos, and other material point to the group's efforts in purchasing land that was then sold to businessmen such as R. E. Olds, and in the oversight of the paving of Michigan Avenue "macadam road" from the Capitol to M. A. C. (Michigan State University). Lists of factories in the area, three unattributed speeches, and financial records are also included in the collection. Most material is organized in files by year. The Lansing Business Men's Association was in existence from its founding in 1901, through 1911 when it was reconfigured to follow the chamber of commerce model that existed in many cities already. For more information on the LBMA and the history of the Chamber of Commerce, see this link.

- Description:
- This collection consists of materials that reflect the history, organization, and operations of the Lansing Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). The Lansing chapter began in 1889. Over the years, the organization grew and operated in several buildings. At one time, the YWCA included rooms to rent and a lunch room that was open to the public. The Diana awards were given annually from 1977 to 2003 to women who were leaders in the community. The collection includes minutes and reports of the board of directors as well as various committees; information on specific programs such as the Diana award, along with photographs and biographies; the YWCA centennial in 1989; and scrapbooks and clippings that cover specific events and individuals associated with the organization. The materials were divided into the following series by library staff: Series 1: Bylaws, deeds, and studies Series 2: Board lists and attendance, Whiteley Foundation, and Zonta Report Series 3: Strategic plans, clubs, committees, departments, and activities Series 4: Annual reports and meetings Series 5: Board minutes Series 6: Diana awards and nominations, publicity, event information, biographical information Series 7: YWCA histories Series 8: Letters, bulletins, guest book, slide show script, postcard book Series 9: Miscellaneous papers 1890-1995 Series 10: Books Series 11: Newspaper clippings and scrapbooks Series 12: Audio-visual materials (photographs, slides, audio recordings) and objects
