Hand written text underneath the title reads "Here the Americans first landed to invade Upper Canada. The Straits are three miles across. General Brock returned the compliment & took Detroit," referencing the siege of Detroit by British General Isaac Brock during the War of 1812. The view depicts Detroit from the Canadian shore. On the Canadian side, in the foreground, can be seen the Huron Church and small settlements, along with a horse drawn carriage and a man on horseback riding along a dirt trail on the left side. - Mounted, sepia-toned photo of the Detroit Opera House following the fire which claimed in on October 7, 1897, as viewed from atop the Second Williams Block, facing northwest. The upper floors of the Opera House have collapsed and rubble fills its lower level, spilling out on the sidewalk. The roof of the building containing Mitchell's Table Supply Company to the right, and, in the background, the south face of the Henry R. Leonard Furniture Company are visibly damaged as well. Barricades have been set up around the buildings' facades, and a large crowd has gathered along them in Campus Martius. Signs for actor Robert B. Mantell's appearance on October 11 are still visible on the building, next door on the Mitchell Table Supply Company building, and even on the barricade. Another sign hung on the Mitchell Table Supply Company reads, "Orders will be filled and patrons taken care of at store cor. of Woodward and State sts. Employees report there." The photo is mounted on grey cardstock. On the verso, the photo was mis-captioned as, "El Paso, Texas, Probably the Meyer Opera House - after fire."

In the next row down are two smaller images--the Centre Park Library, and Capitol High School. The bottom row again contains two images--the Thompson Home for Old Ladies on Cass Avenue, and the Home for the Friendless on Warren Avenue.

- Mounted black and white print of a drawing of the Detroit River circa 1826 taken from page 375 of volume one of Silas Farmer's book, The History of Detroit and Michigan. The drawing is inspired by the painting, Detroit as Seen from the Canadian Shore in 1821, by Alexander Macomb. The Windsor shore of the river is pictured at the lower right, where a man sits atop a rock, fishing. To his right, a woman sits inside a tipi. A pair of rowboats are nearby in the river, while several sailing ships are docked along the opposite shore, in Detroit. The twin steeples of St. Anne's Catholic Church rise above the city's roof tops. The western tip of Belle Isle is visible in the distance. "Somner del., from old drawing" printed in lower left. The print consist of a black and white drawing that shows an elevated view of city, looking northward along Woodward Avenue just south of Jefferson Avenue. The drawing was a supplement to the Detroit Evening Journal on May 7, 1887. A separate engraved drawing along the bottom of the sheet shows a view of the waterfront with many different types of sail and steam vessels on the river. Printed text in the lower left corner shows "Photo-Electrotype Eng. Co., New York."

From left to right are the Henry Hotel, a four story building, the Office of the Detroit Opera House Orchestra (in the former St. Joseph's Lutheran Church or St. John's German Evangelical Church), a store advertising fruits and oysters, the Furniture Wareroom, a shoe store, and a row of two storied storefronts which includes a bar and Jno B. Musschel's Detroit Marble Works. A horse is hitched in front of the bar, and part of a carriage is visible across the street on the left edge of the frame. The matting is off-white cardstock with a scrollwork frame printed around the photo. "Monroe Ave." is handwritten in the matting's lower left corner, but several letters are torn off.
