- Photograph of steamer "Pickwick" on Grand River, Lansing. One of a line of steamers plying the Grand River in the 1870's between the dam at North Lansing, the Mineral Well House, and Benton Bridge. The steamer line was owned and operated by Captain A. P. Loomis. Other boats of the fleet were the "Sea Bird" and "Minnie Cass." The boats were very popular and could be boarded from a landing at the Michigan Avenue bridge over the Grand River.

- Photograph of State Capitol, Lansing. The act providing for its erection was passed March 31, 1871. Its cornerstone was laid October 2, 1873. The total cost was over $1.5 million at the time. The capitol was dedicated and occupied in 1879. The Austin Blair statue visible in front was erected in 1898, dating this photograph to sometime after that point.

- Photograph of the Central Fire Station and some of the equipment in 1925, Lansing. At left is the first old hand pumper used to extinquish fires in Lansing, purchased in 1858. It was later sold to the City of Cheyboygan, Michigan. Then purchased for the sum of $45 by J.P. Edmonds who presented it to the museum of Michigan Historical Society. It was stored in the Turner Building on North Turner Street.

- Photo of first self-propelled (automobile pumper) fire engine, October, 1908, Lansing. Chassis built in the Olds Motor Works in Lansing and shipped to the Webb Pumper Company in St. Louis, Missouri for installation of pumper equipment. This was the first instance of a motor vehicle being used as a water pumper for a fire department. J. P. Edmonds was, at that time, serving in the police and fire department which purchased this vehicle at a cost of $6,000. This pumper was given its first real test at the Downey House fire in 1912. Representatives of fire departments from cities all over the United States came to Lansing to see it in operation on test cases.

- The Thoman Mill on Ottawa Street was built in 1869, by Fred Thoman and his brother-in-law F. J. Reitz. The mill mainly processed grain into flour, but also supplied steam, water, and power for the city. It lasted almost a century at that location before being demolished in 1957 for a parking lot. Also shows the Morley Boarding House at right. The photograph was likely taken by F. N. Bovee, who signed <a href="https://cadl.pastperfectonline.com/childbylink?id=D18D3E23-B05E-4E41-95B8-235051420967">this version of the same image</a>.

- Photo of Joseph E. Warner, Warner joined the Spalding and Rogers North American Circus in 1853 and was involved in the circus busineess at least until 1887. He served as Mayor of Lansing for one year, 1878. He was born in New York state in 1832 and came to Michigan with his family at the age of four. He died on May 21, 1914.

- Photograph of Octagon House on South Washington Avenue at Kalamazoo, at the southeast corner, Lansing. Built in the 1850s by Col. Whitney Jones, State Auditor General for two terms, 1855-1858. When Mr. Arbaugh acquired it in 1902, he moved the house to the rear of the property behind his department store and used it as a warehouse until it was razed in 1935.

- Photograph of the brick Lansing House under construction, Lansing, in 1866. Built by Col. Lafayette C. Baker with a portion of the money he received for the capture of John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of Abraham Lincoln. Baker was head of the secret service in Washington, D.C. The hotel was badly damaged by fire in 1876. Henry J. Downey, in 1889, purchased the hotel and reopened it as the Downey House. In 1937 the hotel was razed by the Downey estate who then leased the land to the J. W. Knapp Co. who erected a modern department store on the site.
