- Description:
- This is a small collection of assorted family papers from the Edmond family of Lansing. It spans from 1850 to 1989 with the majority of the materials dating to prior to 1900. Items include club membership cards, event invitations and wedding announcements for many of Lansing's society families, business and personal accounting notes and diaries, and other personal records such as National Guard service certificates. The collection also includes some manuscript material: an essay about early Lansing, a description of a Bement Co. Labor Day parade float photograph, poetry by James P. Edmonds' father-in-law N. B. Jones, and others. John W. Edmonds was a prominent Lansing pioneer. He moved from New York State in 1854 and established a trunk and leather goods business, eventually partnering with Charles Cannell, a partnership that would last 36 years. Their business was succeeded by the Liebermann Trunk Co. Edmonds was also an organizer of the Lansing Fire Department and served as chief engineer for a time. He was Second Ward alderman, and also treasurer of the local school board for 12 years. His son James P. Edmonds served as City Treasurer before co-founding the Bates & Edmonds Company, which manufactured motors, in 1899. He was also known as an unofficial historian for the city of Lansing, collecting many early photographs and memorabilia. He wrote "Early Lansing History" which was published in 1944. See also the Edmonds Photograph Collection (2018-06-003).

- Description:
- This is a collection of Lansing and regional photographic prints and negatives assembled by David Caterino. Image subjects represent a wide cross-reference of people, buildings, scenery, and events. Most are identified. They have been grouped into 27 subject series (list below) that were established by the collector. Series 27, Lansing Photographers, consists mainly of unidentified studio portraits gathered primarily to identify early Lansing photographers. The subjects of the photographs in those boxes is less significant than the photographers' stamps on cabinet cards and other formats. Most of the information is complementary to research published by David V. Tinder, available online here.

- Description:
- "Meet Your City" is a series of videotaped lectures and presentations on local history or nostalgic topics that were made primarily at the Turner-Dodge House and Heritage Center in Lansing between 1998 and 2004. The Turner-Dodge House and Heritage Center is part of the City of Lansing Parks and Recreation department. Sometimes videos credit the City of Lansing as a producer, or CITY-TV, the city's cable access channel. Many of the videos have no opening or end credits, and are simply casual videotaped recordings of presentations, while others have been more formally produced. In several cases, curator Elizabeth Homer or others introduce the speakers, but often there is no introduction. Some of the presentations include a question and answer segment at the end. The VHS and VHS-C recordings were digitally converted by the Forest Parke Library & Archives at CADL beginning in November 2016. MYC (Meet Your City) ID numbers assigned during the original project point to at least 57 videos having been created, although the numbering of the programs does not correspond with chronological order. The library holds MYC1-MYC17, MYC20-MYC21, MYC24-MYC28, and MYC30-MYC57. No administrative material is on file with these recordings. Please contact FPLA/CADL at localhistory@cadl.org or (517) 367-6313 for more information.

Supporting area groups included the Stewardship Community Board of the MotorCities-Automotive National Heritage Area, the Lansing Historic District Commission, the Lansing Planning Office and the State Historic Preservation Office, among others. Fifty-two sites comprising 60 buildings were surveyed. Twenty-six of those were determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. - Description:
- The Lansing State Journal newspaper ran a feature called "Ye Olde Photograph Album" in its pages from approximately 1936 to 1943. It consisted of a vintage photograph, often sent in by a reader, with a brief caption, each time the feature appeared. Photographs depicted all sorts of scenery, people, and events from the Lansing area, mostly from the 19th century. Lansing historian Ford Ceasar clipped these from the paper and pasted them in an oversized ledger binding with pages that were cut from various Motor Wheel blueprints. Many of the clippings were not pasted in but stuck between the pages loosely as well. Several blank blueprint "pages" were part of the ledger and have been kept. It is not known if this is a comprehensive set of the "Ye Olde..." feature. Dates have not been included with most of the clippings.

- A 100-image slide show prepared by Helen Jacobson, using slides her husband Harold duplicated from older glass slides of unknown origin as well as some from the Leavenworth Studios. Harold Jacobson was a teacher in the Lansing Schools as well as Principal at West Junior High School; the slide show was likely prepared for instructional use in the schools. There is a script with numbers that correspond to the slides; the handwriting is not clear but it has been transcribed and a PDF is attached. The slide set includes an additional seven color images of the fire at Plymouth Congregational Church, February 25, 1971. The main slide set is of images already common in other photograph collections such as Edmonds or CADL's main Local History Photograph collection, but sources are not identified. - Description:
- Donated to the Mason branch of the Capital Area District Libraries in 2006 by Eugene G. Wanger in memory of his father-in-law, Leslie Dana Morris, and mother-in-law, Mabel Rebecca Morris, this collection comprises the majority of Mr. Wanger's personal library of books, manuscripts, and ephemera pertaining to the history of Ingham County, Michigan. Leslie Dana Morris, son of Stephen Arnold Morris and Lida Ellen Couples, was born March 1, 1894, in Logan County, Ohio. He later moved to Eden, Michigan, where he farmed until 1960 when he and his wife relocated to Mason, Michigan. L. D. Morris also spent time as an employee of both REO and the John Bean Company. He died on May 6, 1985. Mabel Rebecca Robinson Morris was born April 2, 1905, near Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Rodman and Mary Robinson, but grew up in Shannon County, Missouri. She graduated from the Birch Tree High School and was a teacher at a country school for two years. On February 24, 1928, she married L. D. Morris. She began university studies at Michigan State University as a freshman at age 48, and eventually received her degree. Mrs. Morris taught elementary education at the Rolfe, Robbins, and Steele Street Elementary Schools before retiring in 1968. She died on July 9, 1992. Eugene G. Wanger, a local attorney, co-chair of the Michigan Committee Against Capital Punishment, author of "Why We Should Reject Capital Punishment," and a Delegate to the State of Michigan Constitutional Convention in 1961, assembled this collection over a period of more than 60 years. His Ingham County Historical Collection contains his personal bibliography of books found in his 2003 publication "Discovering Ingham County." The majority of the collection was acquired by Mr. Wanger. However, the collection includes both published and unpublished material created by Mr. Wanger himself. There are books, maps, atlases, newspapers, reports, small press publications, and ephemera. His 2003 Ingham County bibliography is a sequel to his 1977 publication "Ingham County Histories: An Annotated Bibliography for Students, Buffs, and Collectors." The donor's 11 original series titles and organization have been maintained, although materials have been boxed based on size and fragility. Select items have been digitized in some of the series and are available online. A significant addition to this collection was transferred by Mr. Wanger to CADL in early 2018 and has been added as the 12th series. Although most of the items in this addition are numbered, they do not correspond to numbers in the 2003 Ingham County bibliography. Several of the items are fragile. Most of the publications in this collection are also available as circulating and/or reference copies in the Capital Area District Libraries system. Contact the Mason library to access the collection.
