Photos are a part of the "Visual Views of the Elementary Schools in the Lansing School District" project of the Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop in cooperation with Michigan State University. It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.

It was located on ten acres where the Boys Vocational School once stood on Fairview Avenue North and bounded by Grand River Avenue. Additions were made in 1954 and 1961.

The school opened in 1855 originally in the State Capitol Building until the school was constructed in 1858. James Turner was also involved in securing funds for the school. - Built in 1870 to replace temporary quarters on Mill Street. The two-room school operated for 18 years, being moved to a corner of the lot in 1888 to make room for a new four-room building. In the fall of 1888, the school sold this wood frame structure to the Mission Branch of Plymouth Congregational Church for $85.

- This collection consists primarily of materials related to a complaint and lawsuit filed against the Ingham Intermediate School District in 1975. Also found are minutes from the Development of Learning Abilities Steering Committee, samples of educational materials, an Ingham ISD parent handbook on special education, Lansing School District report and summary on special education in the district, and an essay on the history of the MACLD by Joyce Laing. The Michigan chapter of the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities eventually became part of the Learning Disabilities Association of America, and the state chapter is known as the LDA of Michigan.

It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.
