She talks about adjusting to college life, majoring in veterinary medicine, and hoping to work with endangered species and says that she does not simply want to have a job and family if that means settling down in one place.

Burroughs talks about his parents and how they influenced his college decisions and explains how he evaluated his options and made his career choice. Burroughs also discusses his work as a Residence Hall Adviser at MSU, his own adjustment to college life, drinking patterns on campus, and what he sees as the value of a college education. Burroughs says that he is an optimist and that in next ten years he expects to be an equine surgeon practicing in Minnesota and that he hopes to start his own family.

- President Barack Obama delivers the commencement address at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He praises the accomplishments of the cadets and recognizes the occasion as the first time the top two cadets are both female. Obama describes the challenges that await the graduates in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the challenges facing the country in a global economy. - Dr. Donald Kaufman discusses his career as a Professor of Immunology in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development at Michigan State University. Kaufman describes joining the department in 1971, knowing little about MSU and East Lansing, but welcoming the freedom to work as he wished. He talks about his many interests, pursuing several projects simultaneously and eventually specializing in health care policy. Kaufman recalls the efforts to establish a true university hospital at MSU and how the plan was rejected by the University administration. Kaufman also talks about teaching, his students, his colleagues, and his department's many challenges and accomplishments throughout his tenure. David J. Kallen, MSU Professor Emeritus of Sociology, conducts the interview. Part of the MSU Department of Pediatrics and Human Development Oral History Project.

- Michigan State University pre-medical junior Andy Kim talks about his childhood in Korea, immigrating to the U.S. at age 16, and settling in Battle Creek, Michigan. Kim says that his father brought the family to the U.S. for greater opportunities and hoped that his sons would become doctors. He discuses the challenges of adapting to a different culture and to life at MSU and says that he feels caught between Korea and the United States. Kim also says it is important to have a respected profession because he is not white and aspires to a life in the suburbs with cars and kids. Kim also says that he thinks about other careers and may try dental school if he fails to qualify for medical school, even though his father is very insistent that he become a doctor.

- Twenty-four-year-old Michigan State University graduate Shantae Cannon talks about her childhood in Hayti, MO and moving to Lansing, MI at the age of eleven. Cannon also talks about her education, her desire to learn, participating in an MSU "Upward Bound" program, being the first person in her family to graduate from college, and her job with the State of Michigan. She says that she has a difficult time projecting where she will be in ten years and that a career is not as important to her as continuing to learn.

- Nineteen year old Lansing Community College freshman Tyler Ford talks about living in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with his father who worked for an oil company and moving back to the U.S. to live in East Lansing, MI with his mother, and says that he regrets not taking full advantage of living abroad. He also discusses his parent's marriage and divorce and life at LCC saying he has remained focused in college despite the "freshman foolishness" around him. Ford sees extensive travel in his future and says that he doesn't believe that children will fit into that life style.
