- Print. Sepia-toned photographic print, taken from an elevated vantage point and looking northeast toward the corner of Woodward and Gratiot Avenues. The photograph depicts the steel frame construction of a new component of The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. The F. Rolshoven Co., is visible on the corner, and Hudson's is visible, adjacent on Gratiot. Automobiles are parked along the curb, and are also moving along the thoroughfare. Streetcars and horse carriages are also visible. Pedestrians populate the sidewalk, and the intersections. The subject, date, and photographic sequence numbers are printed on the bottom of the recto, "Hudson's; August 15 - 14; No. - 13.; 7882." Also, the photographer's name, and geographic location are stamped on the verso, "Charles Ruel Messinger, Commercial Photographer, 1646 Woodward Ave. Detroit, Mich. Phone Hemipok 2186; Phone North 6074-3."
