- In this installment of "The lawmakers" Dr. Willis Dunbar interviews state Senators Perry Greene and John Martin, both of Grand Rapids. The two senators discuss their success in helping to increase workman's disability benefits and old age assistance while lamenting the legislature's failure to create an adequate highway program. They also discuss pending legislation to fund Michigan State College and the University of Michigan, and a law which was recently passed to reform the grand jury system in Michigan.

- M. Peter McPherson, former president of Michigan State University, reflects on his time at MSU and particularly his involvement with the MSU Faculty Grievance Policy (FGP) and the Faculty Grievance Official (FGO). McPherson talks about the effectiveness of the FGP and its weaknesses and the rationale for some of the specific changes he brought to the FGP during his tenure as MSU President. He also describes one grievance in particular which required significant university resources to shepherd through the process and says that he was finally forced to intervene personally in order to bring resolution to the matter. McPherson is interviewed by Bob Banks, former Associate Vice President for Academic Human Resources and professor emeritus of the James Madison College at MSU, and John Revitte, former MSU professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations.

- Carla recalls being hired in September 1976 and people yelling out the windows of the factory at those lined up to apply. She describes her first day being assigned to the Body Shop because she "looked strong." Carla went on supervision to stay on the day shift but returned to production. In 1985 she was accepted as an electrical apprentice. Carla discusses education, work, sexism issues, relations with male tradesmen, management, and her union activity.

- In an appearance at the Michigan State University Main Library, autoworker and acclaimed author Ben Hamper talks about his career at the General Motors Truck and Bus Plant in Flint, Michigan and reads from various works, including his forward to the book "Working words: punching the clock and kicking out the jams" by M. L. Liebler and from his most famous work, "Rivethead", a cynical and humorous view of life in an auto plant. A question and answer session follows. Hamper is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck for the Michigan State University Libraries' Michigan Writers Series.

- Robert D. Vassen, retired Associate Director of the English Language Center at Michigan State University is interviewed by John Metzler, African Studies Center Outreach Coordinator and Peter Limb, Michigan State University Librarian and Africana Bibliographer. Vassen discusses growing up in South Africa during the late 1940's and 1950's as an Indian and living in the Indian community of Fordsburg, near Johannesburg. Vassen says he was active in the Transvaal Indian Youth Congress and in 1962, joined the illegal military wing of the African National Congress (ANC). Forced into exile in London in 1964, Vassen says he continued to be an active member of the ANC and edited "Letters From Robben Island: a selection of Ahmed Kathrada's prison correspondence, 1964-1989."

- The Lee Paper Company of Vicksburg, Michigan is featured in this installment of "Western Michigan at work" hosted by Dr. Willis Dunbar. Dunbar explores in great detail the history of the company since its founding in 1903, focusing on the financial hardships the company survived, and the variety of paper products which the mill produces. Dunbar interviews Andy Anderson, a machine tender at the Lee Paper Company, about how he came to work at the mill and his experiences as an immigrant from Scotland. Dunbar also interviews Gordon L. Moore, another Lee employee, about the Hospital Guild Festival which will be held soon in Vicksburg.
