- British prisoners of war perform a gymnastic routine for the camera in the prison compound at Goettingen. The sport of gymnastics was very popular in prison camps as a way for prisoners to keep physically fit.

- French-speaking Belgian prisoners of war lived in this barrack at Goettingen. The Walloons' facilities were comfortable; they had access to desks and a large collection of books. Their walls are decorated with a number of pictures. Goettingen was a propaganda camp for Belgian POW's, who received special privileges during their incarceration.

- A British non-commissioned officer, smoking a pipe, distributes YMCA parcels to Scottish prisoners of war in the compound at Goettingen. A Russian POW, with a parcel, stands to the right. The Association made special arrangements to provide POW's with goods not included in regular Red Cross parcels.

- This was the interior of an enlisted men's barrack for French prisoners of war in the prison camp at Goettingen. While the prisoners did have some belongings, which are stacked on the shelves behind the POW's, the conditions were very cramped in this barrack. There is room, however, for a piano against the back wall which one of the soldiers is playing.

- The German Ministry of War issued this prison camp visitation permit to Reverend Archibald C. Harte and the administration at the prison camp at Goettingen stamped the document. Harte established a working relationship with the camp commandant, Colonel Bogen, and Goettingen received the first YMCA hut for War Prisoners' Aid services in Germany.

- French and British prisoners of war sit and peel potatoes as cooks stir the soup over the stoves. These POW's have a lot of work to do given the vats full of potatoes. It was imperative for the camp kitchen feed thousands of prisoners three times a day to keep all of the POW's healthy.

- This is the front page of the first edition of "The Wooden City: A Journal for Prisoners of War" in the prison camp at Goettingen. French prisoners at Goettingen received their own newspaper in the Spring of 1915 and this issue began a news service in English on 1 July 1915. Prisoners could receive news about events in camp, sports scores, church services, humor, and other items of interest.
