Frank Kremer raised berries on his forty acres and sold them at Eastern Market in Detroit. He and his son, Clarence, loaded up in the evening three times a week and drove a horse and wagon down Woodward Avenue, which was a gravel road with a streetcar rail in the center. They sold berries and then Clarence would drive back to Rochester while Frank slept. These pickers rode out to the patch from Rochester via Detroit United Railway (DUR) cars. The crew raised them using rope, muscle and horses. Women prepared meals. The roof and siding were added a later day. The property was purchased by Barne's father sometime before 1872.
