- One navigational chart entitled, "Chart of Detroit River" that was compiled and published as part of the Survey of the Northern and Northwestern Lakes (War Department, Corps of Engineers). It was "Projected from a Trigonometrical Survey executed under the orders of Major C. B. Comstock, Corps of Engineers." The chart is drawn at a scale of 1:40,000 and shows the Detroit River from Wind Mill Point at the lower end of Lake St. Clair down to Pointe Mouillée at the lower end of the river. Land areas are shaded in pale yellow. River/lake areas are shown in white and pale green. Distances are given in statute miles. Soundings for lake depths are given in feet. Lines of latitude and longitude are shown in black. Lighthouses and buoys are also noted. An inset chart on the lower right side provides additional details of the ship channel in the vicinity of Amherstberg and the mouth of the Detroit River.

The drawing is inspired by the painting, Detroit as Seen from the Canadian Shore in 1821, by Alexander Macomb. The Windsor shore of the river is pictured at the lower right, where a man sits atop a rock, fishing. To his right, a woman sits inside a tipi. A pair of rowboats are nearby in the river, while several sailing ships are docked along the opposite shore, in Detroit. Most of the bridges trusses have burned, leaving bare columns however two trusses near the center of the river still stand, and one on the north side has partially collapsed into the river. The Detroit Fire Department fire tug JAMES BATTLE sprays water on the remaining trusses on the north end. A large cloud of smoke rises from the center trusses. In the foreground at the lower left, several spectators watch from the riverfront beyond a wooden fence.

- One mylar copy of a map entitled, "Tracing from a Map of Springwells by Lieuts. Macomb & Warner, T.E. [Topographical Engineers], 1841, with the Addition of Outlines of Fort Wayne and Public Grounds, Sept., 1865." A signature beneath the title shows "December 12, 1865, (Sd) [Signed] T. J. Cram, Col. Corps Eng'rs." The map shows the existing topography along the Detroit River from the River Rouge to about 2 miles upstream from Fort Wayne. Several roads are shown including Main Road (now Jefferson Avenue), Wood Road, and Fort Street. Also, several mounded areas are shown in the vicinity of the fort which may be the Indian Mounds that were known to exist in the Delray area of Springwells Township. A small portion of the Canadian side of the Detroit River is shown in the area of Sandwich (Windsor), Ontario. A note in the lower right corner area of the map shows the scale as "1 Foot to a Mile" or 1:5,280.

- One "Map of U.S. Lake Survey Basin at Fort Wayne." The map consists of black ink on linen and shows the dock and frontage along the Detroit River that were occupied by the U. S. Lake Survey Office at Fort Wayne. A seawall is also shown at the upstream side of the basin. Water depths are indicated in the vicinity of the basin to the nearest tenth of a foot and are referenced "to a plane 5 feet below the capping." The names, "Wm. J. Marshall," and "Drouillard's Boathouse" are shown on the adjacent "Crane Estate" property that is located immediately northeast of the fort property. The title block on the left side of the sheet indicates that the map was "Made under the direction of Major W. L. Fisk, Corps of Engineers, and E. E. Haskell, Chief Asst., Engineer," and is dated June, 1903. A note in the lower right corner shows that the map was drawn at a scale of 1 inch = 20 feet.

The long image at the top right is a scene, captioned, "Detroit harbor showing water front of city and character of shipping." Several dock workers move bags and barrels at the bottom, while in the background, sailing ships and steamships travel along the river. Below, another long panel depicts a north-facing view of Woodward Avenue, extending from Campus Martius. Shops on the corner of Michigan Avenue, and Woodward Avenue, including Hudson and Symington are depicted. The Opera House is also pictured, housing J.L. Hudson's. An optician, Hull Brothers Family Groceries, and Chas. A. Werner Glassware are depicted as well. Several moonlight towers are visible in the distance. Harper Hospital is in the topmost of the three panels, arranged vertically on the far right. Below are the police headquarters at Bates Street and Farmer Street and the house of correction at the present site of Eastern Market.

- Print. Mounted, sepia-toned photographic print, entitled "Detroit River Tunnel, No. 8. October-1907," depicting the construction of the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel. A barge equipped with two cranes is shown aside two pairs of buoyancy cylinders. Two upright cylindrical sections as well as an alignment mast protrude from the water in front of the nearest pair of cylinders. A small boat, a barge, and a tug are behind the further set of cylinders. On the left, behind a rubble-covered dock, a portion of a loaded railroad car ferry with four stacks is visible. Photo is mounted to white cardstock, onto which is printed the title and a caption: Section No. 1 - Showing section completely submerged on even keel, supported by buoyancy cylinders. Note white mark on alignment mast which will mark surface of water after second lowering. This is accomplished by the admission of water in compartments of cylinders. "C.M. Hayes & Co. Detroit" stamped into matting as well. Photo and matting were store inside of large white cardstock frame.

Many spectators can be seen on the bridge, in various large and small boats adjacent to the course, and on the shore. The photo is mounted under glass in a 1" wide wood frame that has been painted black. The paper backing of the framed photo is torn. A label is glued to the back of the frame which notes, "HA 9-5779, Cave's Mirror and Glass Shop, Picture Framing, Fine Prints, Mirrors, Glass Furniture Tops; 3 King's Highway East, Haddonfield, N.J." On one side of the paper backing, the year, "1909," is written in black ink.

This folio, Part One, has a gray/green paper cover that is printed in brown text. There are three interior pages which include dark brown printed text and a sepia-toned photographic image entitled, "River Scene." The printed text shows a "Preface" section by the publisher and "The Story of Detroit" by Charles S. Hathaway. It appears that several pages of text are missing.

- One navigational chart entitled, "Chart of Detroit River" that was compiled and published as part of the Survey of the Northern and Northwestern Lakes (War Department, Corps of Engineers). It was "Projected from a Trigonometrical Survey executed under the orders of Major C. B. Comstock, Corps of Engineers." The chart is drawn at a scale of 1:40,000 and shows the Detroit River from Wind Mill Point at the lower end of Lake St. Clair down to Pointe Mouillée at the lower end of the river. Land areas are shaded in pale yellow. River/lake areas are shown in white and pale green. Distances are given in statute miles. Soundings for lake depths are given in feet. Lines of latitude and longitude are shown in black. Lighthouses and buoys are also noted. An inset chart on the lower right side provides additional details of the ship channel in the vicinity of Amherstberg and the mouth of the Detroit River.

- One "Map of U.S. Lake Survey Basin at Fort Wayne." The map consists of black ink on linen and shows the dock and frontage along the Detroit River that were occupied by the U. S. Lake Survey Office at Fort Wayne. A seawall is also shown at the upstream side of the basin. Water depths are indicated in the vicinity of the basin to the nearest tenth of a foot and are referenced "to a plane 5 feet below the capping." The names, "Wm. J. Marshall," and "Drouillard's Boathouse" are shown on the adjacent "Crane Estate" property that is located immediately northeast of the fort property. The title block on the left side of the sheet indicates that the map was "Made under the direction of Major W. L. Fisk, Corps of Engineers, and E. E. Haskell, Chief Asst., Engineer," and is dated June, 1903. A note in the lower right corner shows that the map was drawn at a scale of 1 inch = 20 feet.
