- Woman's blue wool knit dress; shift style with hidden elastic waist, boat neckline, and cap sleeves. The dress has white, ribbon top knit stripes 1/4" wide in groups of four, running horizontally down the length of the dress. The 1" hem is secured with a stockinet stitch. One of the first knit dreses imported from Italy.

- A woman's suit that consists of divided skirt and matching jacket of tan linen. The tailored suit has a long jacket with four buttons in front, and two buttons on the cuff of each sleeve. The skirt has eleven buttons on the panel that conceals the pants, and a separate belt. Note: Helen Andrus Merrell Howard, daughter of Dr. Frank D. Howard, married Francis (C.or E.)Merrell c. 1908, and moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Original records call this a bicycling suit, but it might have been worn as a riding habit while out west. She later returned to Detroit.

- This two piece dress may have been worn as a wedding gown or was part of a trousseau. It is made of gold-color silk satin, and the bodice is boned with deep points front and back. It has a laced center front closing with elbow length sleeves. The deep "U" neckline is filled with ecru lace and embroidered net, and has fringed ruching. There is lace around bottom of the bodice and at the sleeves. The bustle-back skirt has a very long train with irregular pleats. The front hem has pleated, up-turned curves. The dress has a draped panel at its left side, and is lined with buckram. There is a hook-and-eye closure at the waist. The bodice is labeled Newcomb Endicott, Detroit. It was possibly worn by Kate Bock of Battle Creek, who married George W. Tanner of Indianapolis, October 2, 1882.

- A pair of woman's grey suede, four strap bootines with cut steel bead decoration on the front, and buttons across the instep. The shoes have a cut out section on the front of vamp, and are lined with white kid. Stamped: Sorosis. Purchased at Sorosis Shoe Shop in the David Whitney Building, from Mr. Henry Elliot, c. 1912-1915. They belonged to the donor's mother Jessie Alcorn Widner Colton (Mrs. Clark E. Colton), born February 14, 1870, married April, 1892, died December 4, 1953 (Tucson, Arizona). She lived at 4546 Commonwealth, Detroit. Mrs Colton was a member of the Louisa St. Clair Chapter-D.A.R. Founders and Patriots Society, Detroit.

- Woman's wine color, two piece wool suit, having a three quarter length coat/jacket with a large square collar of wine velvet that is edged with black fur. The coat/jacket's sleeves are tightly fitted with wide cuffs of velvet and fur to match the collar. Additionally, the fitted coat/jacket has a loose flap-like peplum, and three pleats at each side of the waist. Dark, plain wood buttons are down the front of the jacket and serve as a decoration on the peplum, and at each side of the back. The skirt is slightly flared and plain in front, and is gathered into the waistband in the back. A button-on belt is around the back of the skirt only. Worn by the donor's neighbor: Mrs. Ira Kelly. Label: "B. Siegel Co., Detroit." There is an Ira Kelly listed in the 1921-22 City Directory as an auto top builder.

- Woman's wine, navy blue, and white herringbone check suit. The straight skirt has a side ziper closing with a 5" split on the opposite side. It has an faced waist with a facing of wine crepe. The long sleeved jacket has a long-fitted line with shoulders that are heavily padded, and a concealed hook and twist closing in front. The collarless neckline is trimmed with two rows of self-bias strips which extend to the front armholes. The edges of the sleeves have the same bias insets. The jacket is lined with wine crepe. Worn by donor. Label: "Custom made, Bess Schlank, Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles."

- This black and cerise wool plaid dress has a bodice of cerise crepe with a plain neck and short sleeves. The bodice is attached to a full skirt with wide box pleats. There is a stiff net nylon underskirt attached. It has a matching waist length jacket with three self-buttons down the front. The jacket sleeves are elbow-length. Label: "Scassi". - Woman's A-line dress is made of paper with a design depicting the telephone yellow pages. The collar has a bow at the center front, and the armholes are bound in black cloth tape. There are no fitting darts or fasteners. Worn by donor while pregnant with her first child, it was very comfortable. Label: Waste Basket Boutique, by Mars of Ashville, NC, Do Not Wash. This material is fire resistant unless washed or dry cleaned, then becomes dangerously flamable when dry.

- This woman's two-piece tan silk shantung dress has a skirt with a gathered side pannier. The dress is trimmed with brown faille, and the curaisse bodice has brown faille trim. It has brown panel in front with a large brown and tan bow, and streamers in back. Its sleeves are finished with a lace-edged white ruffle. The dress is lined. Note: Coat with hood 1950.001.011 matches the dress. See also matching parasol 1950.001.101. Note: Two pieces from trousseau of Della Miles Bertch, born c. 1870. Accession records spell donor's name 3 different ways, but US Census records always use Fredrika.

- Woman's dress in a fine red wool, trimmed with red velvet and white lace. The bodice, with a back closure, is draped and crosses in front like a loose jacket. It is edged with velvet that forms a rosette. A dicky of multi-colored beads with gold lace over red and turquoise. The oversleeves reach to the elbows, and wrist length undersleeves are of white lace. Cuffs of the beads similar to those on the dicky. The high waisted skirt flares slightly, and appears to open down the side, closes with rosettes.

Its skirt has a double pleat at the left center-front, and a single pleat at the center back. A self belt is set in the right side seam. Self bows at the tops of the sleeves. - 1- Woman's four piece tobogganing outfit. Heavy cinnamon wool plush (mohair blend?). a) Jacket. Double-breasted (Russian blouse). High stand-up collar. Long tight sleeves with flaring cuffs. Mid-thigh length. Two pleated pockets with rounded corners on front, fastens with three blue covered buttons on shoulder. Wide self-belt, collar, cuffs and hem have embroidered blue sleds and large dots, lined with navy blue silk. b) Skirt. Boot top length, no waistband, gros grain inner band, A-line. Front placket closes at waist with hook-and-snaps, opens at hem with four covered buttons. Rounded patch pockets on each side of front, half belts go across back at waist & 3" below waist. Belts and pockets have blue covered button trim, not lined, but seams are bound. Has been shortened. c) Knickers. Not very full, knee length, black tape waistband. Side hook-and-eye fastening, legs gathered to narrow cuff which fastens with metal buckle. d) Hat. Same fabric. Mushroom shaped. Blue sleds embroidered on band. Blue silk tassle sewn on top. Separate piece comes down to cover ears. Lined with navy velvet. Label: J. Hock, Detroit. Donor said that not long after they were married (June 1916), she and her husband acted as chaperones for a winter sports trip to Lake Champlain, where she wore this ensemble.

- Woman's crepe-backed satin, below knee-length cocktail dress in olive green with loops of pink. A small sequin centers each of the loops. The bodice has short sleeves, a high round neck with a slight turn-over at the throat, and a slit down the center front that is fastened with a hook and loop. The back is draped, and has a cut out from the nape to shoulder blades. The natural waist has a waistband, and the skirt and bodice are gathered so as to appear to tie in the center front. The skirt is fairly straight and has a side zipper. Labels: "Hattie Carnegie" and "Stanley Korshak, Chicago."

- Woman's navy blue wool coat in a below-the-knee length. The princess line coat is single breasted, and its front seams end in pleats on the breast and skirt. The long narrow sleeves are decorated with a large triangular panel of drawn thread work. The coat has a false collar of drawn thread, wide padded shoulders, and six large buttons with a faint wood grain. It is lined with navy taffeta. Label: Hattie Carnegie, Inc.

- This woman's one piece, blue silk taffeta dress has a pattern of tiny blue and white checks. The garment has a fitted bodice that buttons down front, and its buttons are covered by a panel of pleated blue iridescent taffeta. A band of embroidered iridescent blue taffeta, having a peacock-tail design, is edged with maroon around the back-neck, and over the shoulders. The front forms a V-shaped waist that separates toward the hips. The same material and pattern are around the cuffs of the long sleeves. The dress has a high neck with mandarin- like collar that is edged with tulle. The skirt front is of solidly pleated blue iridescent taffeta. It has a wide pleated drape of same material around the skirt at the hip line, and two ruffles at its bottom are under ruffles of maroon. Bows of blue taffeta, with blue fringed edges, are around the skirt's bottom. The back of the skirt is blue checked taffeta (same as bodice) that is gathered to form a bustle. There is a large bow of maroon grosgrain ribbon in back. The dress is entirely lined.

- Woman's black leather sport shoes. The low lace-up shoes have seven eyelets, a round toe, and a low heel. The sole is marked: Essex Shed-Wet. The tongue is marked in pen: B. Frederick, VZ, 6C. A similar pair is shown in the Ladies Home Journal, 1913. These shoes might have been worn with Women's Service Corps uniform .10.

- This re-embroidered cloque evening dress with stole has a silvery white ground with geometric padded areas outlined with silver thread. The sleeveless dress of just below knee length is princess-cut. It has a cowl neck in front continuing to a deep "V" in the back. There are pockets hidden in the front side seams. The snap closing in back is ornamented with a large self pompom. The dress is lined in white silk. The stole falls over the shoulder to hem length and the folds are tacked down to give it shape. "Ruth Joyce" is embroidered on the underside. Designed by Ruth Joyce.

- This two piece, dark purple taffeta woman's dress is trimmed with purple velvet. The bodice has a basque waist, and buttons down the front with thirteen cut white and smoke pearl buttons. It has velvet lapels, and a loose back shoulder yoke and tab across front opening just below lapels. Its velvet sleeves are trimmed with bands of taffeta, and have ruching at the cuffs. An additional row of pleated white silk ruching is also at the cuff. The back has a longer center peplum effect ending in a large flat bow. The bodice is lined with a tan cotton. The skirt's fabric matches that of the bodice. The skirt has an elaborately draped and gathered bustle. The skirt has a foundation of sheer wool fabric, possibly bombazine, that the trims are attached to. (The foundation is not a lining.) It has a long train, a dust ruffle of pleated white cotton edged with lace, and a brown cambric lining. Note: Probably belonged to Mrs. Charles Ducharme, grandmother of donor.

- This woman's aqua satin evening gown has shoestring shoulder straps, a low, straight neckline, slightly dropped waist, and a bodice tightly fitted by long darts. The skirt is straight with a single pleat at the side front. There is a side zipper. Label: "Philip Hulitar." The matching sleeveless jacket with horizontal stripes of alternating aqua, green and dark blue, connected with faggotting, fitted by long darts at the waist, and has a side closing. Label: "Claire Pearone, Paris-Detroit." See also tuxedo worn by Mr. Reuther #1973.098.002

- This woman's black silk faille dress has satin stripes, braid, jet bead and fringe trim. The skirt attached to the top at the back only. The dress has a double row of black crocheted buttons with tiny jet bead centers down the front of its jacket-like top. There is a deep pleated flounce bustle at the back. See matching dolman number 48.47.1. Worn by Mrs. Calvin Maxfield ( Jane Graham) b. 1844, Hartland, MI. Died 1883, Plymouth, MI. Her husband operated a hotel in Plymouth.

- This pair of woman's high laced, black kid shoes has Cuban heels. They are lined with white cotton. Lynn, Mass. Grover Comfort Street Shoe. Sole is stamped: Grover, Combination Comfort Shoe. Right shoe has tag: Frank and Seder Co., of Detroit. Original price tag of $8.95.

- Woman's evening gown having a white net bodice over pink slip. It has a high collar, elbow-length sleeves, panels of net with gilt-thread floral border over the shoulders, and rhinestone trim. Its skirt of pale pink daisy-brocaded satin has vertical chains of gilt-thread daisies. Its empire waist is straight, and slightly draped at the sides and back, and has a short train. It is enhanced with gilt buckles having beaded fringe hanging at front and side skirt drapes. Label: B.A. Krenz, Detroit. The dress belonged to the donor's mother, Mrs. James R. Hayes. Mr. Hayes was the proprietor of the Wayne Hotel from the 1880s to 1918. The dress was made by Bertha A. Krenz whose shop was on High Street (Vernor).
