The view shows a group of 12 workmen who are seated or standing on the truss structure that supports the bridge counterweights. Some of the wooden formwork for one of the counterweights (made of poured concrete) can be seen in the background.

The top of the old railroad bridge is visible near the center of the photo. Handwritten text on the verso shows "Supt. Hedrich (white hat)" and "Missouri Bridge & Iron Co., contractors; Mr. O'Conner, chief engineer."
