Tarentum; Lamps; Paint; Clay (unfired); Slip; undecorated

Description:

Buff micaceous clay with traces of white slip painted dull red. Almost circular lamp has nozzle (added separately) extending very little beyond rim and wick-hole intruding on it. Sides slope up and out from small base and merge into almost flat rim which partially closes top. Horizontal handle lies flat across rim at back and is attached solidly to it. Flat base shows spiral made when detached from wheel.
