Bob Schichtel, local sports researcher, further describes the photograph: This is the 1937 Grand Rapids Herald All City Football First Team as picked by the Grand Rapids Herald staff after consultation with players and coaches. They are: front row, left to right, Chuck DuShane, GR Creston HB, Lou Cebelak, Catholic Central HB, Jack Barrows, GR Central QB, Ed Ripmaster GR Central FB, Back row, Bob Gibbs GR South E, John Michalak, GR Union T, Lester Gaunt, GR Ottawa Hills G, Martin Grinwis, GR Creston C, Charles Meyers, GR South G, Bill Rosema, GR Central T, Mike Sobel, GR Davis Tech, E. No player on the first team weighed more than 190 pounds. Chuck DuShane went on to play football at Alabama as a quarterback in 1939 and 1940 as well as four years in the NFL with the Detroit Lions as a quarterback, linebacker and guard. He was inducted into the GR Sports Hall of Fame.
