B-24 Liberator
Thursday - Sewing. Workers in the Willow Run trim shop have little time to "mend our clothes" -- so early Thursday or any other morning. Many of them, like Mrs. Helen Pearsall, are sewing like mad as they prepare cotton fabric for use in covering moveable control surfaces of the B-24 -- the elevators, ailerons, and rudders.; Willow Run is a great contrast to the few plants in which women worked during World War I. Women work in virtually every department at the Ford plant and many operations are similar to universal household tasks. Mrs. Pearsall is operating one of the shop's 60 power sewing machines.
