The Bear Dance. (From Catlin's N.A. Indian Collection) / Catlin del on Stone by McGahey.
A group of Native Americans performing the Bear Dance in preparation for hunting grizzly bear. The leader of the dance wears a full bear suit that nearly covers his entire body. Several other dancers are dressed in bear masks, while others are crowned with feather headdresses. Most of the dancers are adorned with necklaces, body paint and patches of bear fur tied around their ankles.
