Buffalo Hunt, On Snow Shoes. (From Catlin's N.A. Indian Collection) / Catlin del on Stone by McGahey.
Two Native American hunters wearing snowshoes hunting buffalo. Both hunters are dressed in animal-skin clothing, feather headdresses and face paint. One hunter wearing a bear claw necklace drives his spear into the side of a mortally wounded buffalo while the other hunter aims an arrow at the fallen beast. Another badly injured buffalo lays nearby while the remainder of the herd attempts to flee across the deep snowdrifts.
