City Jail Cells Below City Hall

City Jail Cells Below City Hall

Description:

In the fall of 1994, developer Bill Kinley of Ypsilanti invited the Historical Society and Commission to tour both the Union and Wallace blocks prior to their reconstruction for new business locations. One of the areas was the former local jail in the Wallace block that was under the fire department in the 1930s and 1940s. The jail was in the basement of the north end of the Wallace block. Upstairs over the fire department was city hall.
