Inlay Fragment; Karanis; Furniture inlay; Glass; Rosette
Half of rosette for inlay, opaque red, with circular center piece of opaque turquoise blue inlaid within it. Rosette flat on under side and slightly convex on upper side with petals, perhaps originally eight, moulded in relief upon it. Center piece flat on both sides with a bevelled edge to enable it to fit into rosette. Traces of black adhesive, possibly pitch, in hollow in rosette where center-piece was fixed. Diameter of rosette: 4 cm. Diameter of center-piece: 1.2 cm.
