Mrs. William Davenport
Mrs. William Davenport, the daughter of Orrin Parsons, was an active member of the Library Association and instrumental in establishing the library. In 1900 a group of civic-minded women worked to organize a community library. The Saline Library Association was established, complete with a constitution, by-laws, and elected officials. The village council provided space for the library and the Methodist Church offered bookcases and books.; In 1907 the Village Council rooms were getting crowded, so Mrs. Davenport leased a small building behind the Citizen's Bank, owned by her husband, to house the library. In 1917 the bank decided to remodel, and Mrs. Davenport donated funds to build a new library building just down the block at 105 N. Ann Arbor Street. The library remained in that location until it moved to an expanded facility at 201 S. Ann Arbor Street in 1967.
