Oral history interview with Coral Powers-Gibbs conducted by Sharon Carlson on June 6, 1995 at her home. Coral Powers-Gibbs recalls her childhood, coming to WMU for the first time in 1922 for her siblings’ education, and dedicated professors. She briefly attended WMU and left before finishing due to her mother’s illness. In the early 30s, she was hired at the Upjohn Company where she worked for 15 years. She describes her job, her eventual marriage to Shirley Gibbs, her husband’s jobs and artistic education, and his grandfather, William Gibbs’ experience in California during the Gold Rush. She also recounts the farm her sister Myrtle Powers, a teacher at WMU for over 10 years, maintained as a show-and-tell for students. Coral Gibbs passed away in 1997.
