Oral history interview with Dr. Leroy Ray conducted by Tom Coyne on January 9, 1995. Ray recollects the challenges of his early education, what it was like to grow up in Texas in the 1930s, and his experience in Los Angeles during the Watts Riot. Dr. Ray joined the faculty in 1973 as the Black Americana Studies Program Director and remained as its head until his retirement in 1996. Ray discusses the WMU faculty, the impact of the program, working with black students on campus, and community outreach. He passed way on February 12, 2014.
