Oral history interview with Hal Ray conducted by Lewis Carlson on November 6, 1990. Hal Ray was a long time professor of Physical Education. He recollects his childhood, going to West Point, sports played in high school, his college education and his teaching experience while in the Air Force in the 1950s. In 1960, he was hired at WMU. He recollects his experiences with Mike Gary, Buck Read, Charlie Marr, Joe Hoy, George Dales, and others. He discusses the history of WMU physical education, his sabbatical researching sports art, working relationships with administration, and the affects of the GI Bill on sports and education. He also discusses the changes to the university and the department of physical education over the years.
