Oral history interview with Leonard Gernant, conducted by Lewis Carlson on July 25, 1989. Gernant discusses his education at a private school and coming as an undergraduate to Western Michigan University graduating in 1934. In 1943, he returned to WMU as faculty. Gernant discusses his experiences with several of WMU’s presidents, influential professors, faculty/administration relationships, co-founding the Michigan Council on Aging committee under Governor Williams, working with WMUK radio, and working as editor of the Western Herald. After serving the University for more than 32 years, Gernant retired in 1975. He passed away August 14, 1994.
