Paul Pommer correspondence, 1918-03-10, World War I
Letter from musketeer Paul Pommer addressed to the family of Gust. (Gustav) Pommer in Frankfurt, Germany. Postmarked K.D. Feldpost, March 12, 1918, hand dated March 10, 1918. Pommer details his Sunday, which included quiet moments, a visit from several of his comrades who came from a nearby city, and an evening meal with a large number of fellow soldiers. Pommer also talked about God, who helps him through dark times, and singing hymns with his comrades. In thinking of God, Pommer, always thinking of his parents as well, is prepared for death, although he does wish to see his homeland again, which he has great love for. He tells his parents not to take this too hard, for he must recognize and write this, it is the harsh reality. He does hope that he keeps his life though. He mentions the pleasant spring weather, remembering Easter with his family in this weather. Pommer concludes the letter by recognizing that he received the letter from his mother dated the 6th.
