- In "History and Growth of the Lansing Public Schools" (vol. 2, 1944-1962) by Anna L. Brewer, it is noted that the land this school occupied was purchased in 1892. A two-room school named Lesher Place School opened there in September of that year for grades one through four. In 1895 its name was changed to East Park School, which can be seen in the white plaque above the door in this photograph. In 1916 the school was replaced with a new building. When the park across the street had its name changed to Oak Park in 1926, the school followed suit.

- The Cherry Street school at 528 Cherry Street was built in 1894 and had an addition built in 1915. It ended service as a school in 1933 and was eventually converted to office space. On the added entryway enclosure, lettering "Manson Building" can be seen. It was named for architect Elmer J. Manson who had an office in the same block. Two copies. - Abigail Rogers was a pioneer for the school. She and her sister Delia worked to achieve education for women. The school opened in 1855 originally in the State Capitol Building until the school was constructed in 1858. James Turner was also involved in securing funds for the school. - Built in 1870 to replace temporary quarters on Mill Street. The two-room school operated for 18 years, being moved to a corner of the lot in 1888 to make room for a new four-room building. In the fall of 1888, the school sold this wood frame structure to the Mission Branch of Plymouth Congregational Church for $85.
