Trophies and differing types of sports equipment including those for baseball and tennis are visible in the display. Events held for boys and girls are noted on the left and right of the display. Signage in the central foreground reads, "9th Annual Field Event of Detroit Public Schools, Friday June 1st, All trophies, medals, and prizes donated by the Detroit Free Press."

- Double-sided newsprint program for a performance by the Great Western and Military Band at White's Grand Theatre. The recto carries the program's nameplate, declaring the establishment to be "The Largest and Handsomest Theatre in America," and listing Charles O. White as the proprietor and manager and H.A. Foster as the treasurer. The recto is covered with advertisements. The central column of the verso lists the pieces to be performed at the concert. The remainder of the verso is filled with advertisements. Several advertisements make mention of December 1883 or the 1883 holiday season.

Building, corner Witherell and Adams Avenues, is the largest and most complete of its kind in the world and boasts of a gymnasium second to none in the country.
