- The photograph is dated 1857, but an article in the Lansing State Journal in 1911 states that the business was established in 1860, and not formally incorporated until 1901. B. F. Simons Sr. founded it, and his sons B. F. Jr. and Howard A. operated it into the 20th century. The photograph was probably taken sometime around 1900.

- Description:
- A view of the Nelson F. Jenison dry goods store at 123 South Washington Avenue. Four women and two men stand out front, with bolts of fabric and other items for sale. A reflection of Mead Hall can be seen in the windows at left. All of the people in the photograph are not identified. The photograph was taken prior to 1896 when Jenison sold the store to Reynolds, Jewett, and Knapp. This building was torn down for the construction of the W. T. Grant store in the early 1930s.

- Located at 106 West Ottawa Street on the northwest corner of North Washington Avenue and Ionia Street. Dancer-Brogan Dry Goods was on the first floor. This building was completed in 1914. See second image for more information.

- A panoramic photograph of Mills Dry Goods employees and families taken at a picnic. The Mills Dry Goods store operated in Lansing from 1905 to 1960. On the back of the photograph: "Lucius Mills, back row center (black hair and mustache), son of founder of store."
