- This woman's dark green wool day dress has two pieces, and its collar, cuffs, waistband, and front of bodice are made of paisley-patterned wool. The lower portion of skirt has a matching paisley pattern. Worn by Miss Esther Brown, cousin of donor's mother. Miss Brown was born in 1846. Donor's mother was the daughter of tobacco manufacturer and Michigan Governor J.J. Bagley.

- Woman's gray kid high laced shoes. Chunky heels. Label: Wm. E. Hintz, 1520 Broadway, Detroit, Mich. Hintz was listed as a custom shoemaker in the 1923 City directory. Came with gray moire "toe-fillers" to keep the shoe in shape. One gray moire zipper shoe bag with black silk separator for each shoe. Note: Broadway St. was called Miami until 1907. In 1920 all street numbers in the city were changed, and 1520 was among those new numbers.

- Woman's suit. Two piece. Grey and mauve brocade with silvery figure, probably synthetic. Design based on the unicorn tapestry, showing the unicorn in captivated with scattered flowers between the corrals. Jacket: single breasted, with five self-covered buttons. Shallow V-neck, notched collar. Long tight sleeves with elbow darts, wide fold-back cuffs, very fitted. Mid-hip length, lined with grey crepe. Skirt: below knee length. Center front box pleat. Side pleats conceal pockets, gored back, side zipper. Label: Florice, Washington Blvd., Detroit. Note: Florice: Florence Rice, in business 1930-60s. Blouse: probably worn with suit. White nylon lace. - This women's gray wool shirtwaist has a round, notched collar. Its center closing has four gray buttons, and cuffed, bracelet length dolman sleeves with a gusset under the arm. The skirt is cut on the bias, and is mid-calf in length. It has a peg-top, and a center zipper closing, with two darts front and back. A stiff self belt with buckle covered in mottled gray kid is lined with brown leather. The dress was worn by donor, a buyer for Hudson's, and was made by Irene of California.

- Woman's coat and dress ensemble in a medium brown wool jersey that is piped with white leather. The knee-length coat is double breasted, and is fairly straight with a seamed dropped waistline, and straight bracelet length sleeves. It has a small round collar, edged in white leather, and eight white leather buttons down the front with buttonholes that are bound in leather. The coat has a matching crepe lining. The dress is made of the same fabric with a close round neck, and short sleeves. The sheath dress has a seamed dropped waist in the front panel only, and has two white leather buttons just above. Back zipper. Label: "Schrader Knits" and "Int. Ladies Garment Workers Union, Union Made, AFL-CIO, ILGWU."

- Woman's navy blue wool matlesse suit with a cut-a-way jacket and long skirt. The V-neck jacket has a deep shawl collar and a partial velvet facing. Long narrow sleeves have three velvet ball buttons. The jacket closes with two velvet ball buttons and an elaborate velvet and self-fabric frogs. It is lined in nary color charmuse. The coat dips from waist length in front to knee length in back. Half-belt of fabric tubing and velvet at waist level. Ankle-length pegged skirt with a concealed waistband is shaped with pleats at front hem and tucks at waist. The skirt hooks down the side front, and is unlined with the seams bound with tape. - Woman's bright tangerine-color, ankle length evening gown. The flowing, sarong-style dress has assymetrical straps. It has a closing, and fullness at the right front with horizontal draping over the bust with a complex front snap closing. An underdress of tangerine chiffon over crepe has staying, and a concealed zipper. The gown is slit below the knee on the right side. Fullness on the right side flutters open to reveal the underdress. The dress was worn by the daughter of Norah Dingler to her Senior prom. She was a student at Shrine High School. It was purchased at Julie's in the Fisher Building for $700.00. Label: Ferdinando Sarmi.

- Woman's cream wool crepe, one piece dress. The garment has a V-neck of ecru net, long fitted sleeves, a waistline that is slightly above normal, and a pleated but narrow skirt. It also has an ecru lace collar, and a bodice pleat that extends from center front over the shoulder, and down the center back side. A cross over closure on the center front side is trimmed with a band of multicolored embroidery at thewaist is edged with pink grosgrain ribbon. A peplum of crepe and multicolored embroidery starts at the hip and extends around the back and ends at the other hip.

It buttons down the front, and is cut-away with a short tail in the back. The skirt (b) is very long and full, and is gathered at the waist in large pleats. It has a black cloth waistband. The black felt hat (c) has a round crown with a narrow visor in the front. It has a band of black grosgrain ribbon, and is lined with pinkish-red satin. Label (hat): 1862 Non Pareil, size 6 5/8.

Worn by Mrs. Helen Milliken at 1970 and 1974 inaugural balls, her husband was the governor of Michigan from 1969 to 1983. He had previously served as Michigan's Lieutenant Governor from 1965 to 1969 .

- This woman's cloak is made of a striped wool (red, blue and brown on tan). It has a pointed yoke and standing collar of brown velvet, and self fabric buttons down its front. The back is fitted with very low bustle, and the pleated front hides the arm slits. Unlined. It was described in the original accession records as a traveling cloak. There are vertical strips of wool over the seams which shape the coat to the figure. There are three strips on the sleeves: two cover the seams and one is false. - Description:
- This woman's short capelet is made of black seal fur with large panels of white loon feathers. It has a wide ruffled black seal collar with band of white loon feathers around edge. It is lined with gold and gray brocade, and has two small pockets inside. The capelet belonged to Mrs. Emory Low Ford.

- This navy crepe women's maternity dress has long sleeves with cuffs, is gathered at the waist by an elastic and has navy blue floss embroidered trim. The top is collarless in front and has an 8" collar in back. The dress is fastened by several sets of hooks and eyes around the waist band. The ankle length skirt has a flying panel at the front attached to a yoke band, and the peplum is attached at the back. There is a 24" band around the waist which hooks under the flying panel in front.

- Women's brown velvet dress with long, reddish-gold lame sleeves having velvet cuffs. Sleeves are very full and smocked at top. Small stand-up collar ending in two long ribbons in front (brown velvet on one side and gold lame on other) that tie in a bow at front of neck. A sash of velvet and gold lame is fastened at the sides. The dress ties in back, and has a small dickie of lame snaps across opening at neck. The dress does not have a label. Belonged to Mrs. Crowley.

It has an un-beaded back, and short sleeves. The waist-length jacket is of matching fabric, and has three quarter length sleeves with turn-back cuffs. Has matching purse #68.259.001. Worn by donor at the affair honoring her husband's appointment to the United Nations in 1954.

- This "A" line, wool jersey woman's dress (of about knee length) has a black and white herringbone pattern with large black and white flowers applied. The short sleeves are cut in one with the dress. The high, round neck is closed by a back zipper. There is a 7" slit in the left side hem. The fur continues down the right side to the hips. There are four large buttons in the back, and another four are in the front. The coat fastens with hooks and eyes, and has a dark brown silk twill lining. The garment was bought at Taylor-Woolfenden, Detroit. Worn by Jane Lynn Patterson, whose husband was an undertaker. Original cost was $150.00.

The skirt has 1/2" pleats sewn down 10". Knee length. There is a 1/4" wide self belt. It hs a matching purple, velveteen hip-length woman's jacket with lapels faced with the same lining material as the dress and long has fitted sleeves. There is a one button closing and a 1 1/2" wide self belt. The belt has a brass buckle. The jacket has patch pockets on either side. - This woman's black velvet and ermine cape is comprised of a straight tube of black velvet that is a below- knee-length. It is lined with white satin in a rice-paper pattern. The cape has armholes at shoulders, and a wide shawl collar of white ermine. It dips down in back to below waist length, and a band of ermine runs down the front to the hem. The collar is lined with black satin, and the velvet inner-lined with white wool. The cape is without fastenings though they may have been removed. Label: Pack-Wolin. Worn by donor in early 1930s about the time of her debut. Donor is daughter of Eleanor Ford Torrey, and granddaughter of Emory Low Ford.

The skirt which has no waistband has a dropped waist, and the same yoke effect. The lower part of the knee-length skirt is cut on this bias. Two horizontal piped, slash pockets are at the waist level. A single wooden button is at the waist closing. Brown braid trim is applied over the shoulders. The collarless jacket is lined in brown crepe. The A-line skirt has a 2" waistband, with a side zipper. The unlined skirt is below knee length. The suit was made for the donor, who was a millinary buyer at Hudson's, by Adrian. It was a favorite of the donor's. Hat 84.122.46 was made to wear with the suit. Label: Adrian Original.

- This woman's, yellow silk crepe dress has a convertible collar, and a "V" throat that fastens with eleven small pearl buttons and self-fabric loops. The sleeves are fastened at the cuff with two small pearl buttons and self fabric loops. The cuffs are trimmed with a hand-embroidered design of abstract flowers, leaves, and scrolls in various colors of silk floss. A similiar decoration trims the front of the dress top around the neck opening, and at the center front. The skirt has fine accordion pleats, and the hip line is trimmed with smocking in different colors of silk floss. The dress does not have a label.

- This woman's dress is of iridescent maroon taffeta. The three piece garment has a cut-away style bodice that is fitted, and reaches to the front waist. It has a long peplum on a separate belt, round shoulders, tight sleeves, and no collar. Black and red silk fringe runs down both sides of the bodice and across the back (simulating a collar) and around the edge of tail. The long full skirt has a train in back, and a cross hatch pattern around the bottom of the skirt that is made with black braid and beads. The black and red fringe that trims the bodice is also used around the hemline of the skirt.

- Woman's white silk charmuese dress with short chiffon sleeves. It has a V-neck that is edged with net, and an ecru lace yoke. The bodice is bloused with a second layer of material bloused to the waist, and heavily trimmed with gold and silver metallic thread, and strings of gold beads. The waist cummerbund lays over the top of a moderately full skirt. An overskirt pannier reaches to the hips, and is trimmed with the same metallic embroidery and gold beads as the bodice. The overskirt is slightly caught up in front by a sash (embroidered with bead fringe). The dress fastens in the back. Label: J. Hock, Detroit. This gown belonged to the donor's mother, Mrs. Hugo Scherer of Detroit.

- This is a woman's two piece wool twill suit in dark taupe wool with black silk braid. The jacket has long, straight sleeves, rounded collar, is hip length with a nipped-in waist. It is decorated with a swirling loop and paisley pattern of braid at the center front and jacket hemline. Covered buttons are at its center, and a hook and eye closure continue into the braid pattern at the front points of the jacket. The jacket is lined in crepe, and is labeled at the back of the neck B. Siegel. This unlined skirt is made of dark taupe wool twill. The A-line skirt is mid-calf length with 1 1/2 " waistband . There is a zipper and button closure at the side. It is labeled B. Siegel. The ensemble was purchased by the donor at Siegel's in 1949. It was donated to the B. Siegel Company for its 100th Anniversary celebration.

- This woman's suit has a black velvet jacket that has a collar, cuffs, and pocket flaps that are ecru wool with black and tan houndstooth check. The jacket has slits on its sides and in its back, and weights are on the side flaps. The jacket has an ecru satin lining. The skirt has a slight gored line in a wool fabric of ecru and black checks that match the collar and cuffs of the jacket. A black velvet underskirt hangs about 6" below the wool. Belonged to the donor: Marie Freud (Mrs. Joseph Siegel) who was born in Detroit in 1893, and married in Detroit in 1914. Label: B. Siegel Co.

- This woman's light grey silk cocktail or formal gown has a flesh-colored yoke that is heavily beaded with pearls, rhinestones, and crystal. It has short sleeves, and a jewel neckline. The natural waistline is also outlined with two rows of beadwork. The skirt is gored and extremely full. It has an 11" hem, and attached petticoats of tan crepe and silk faced bottom interlined with horsehair. Back zipper and covered buttons with loop fastenings where chiffon begins. Worn by donor. The skirt is very full and deeply smocked at hip level fitting into the waistline with scallops. It has a back zipper. It has a matching stole with fringed edges and an organdy petticoat. - Woman's one piece dress in white silk and chiffon. The silk forms the body of the dress, and the chiffon is used for the collar, under-waist, and sleeves. The bodice, cummerbund, belt, cuffs, and skirt are embroidered with white silk floss, in a pattern of roses and butterflys. The bodice has a V-neck, and square collar, and the skirt has a peg top. Made by Detroit dressmaker Bertha Krenz.

- This is a woman's pantsuit evening ensemble. The cardigan jacket and shell are completely covered in sequins and beads to suggest the cables of traditonal knit tennis wear. The V-neck cardigan has a 1.25" wide decorative band of blue thread, green sequins, and red and white beads that extends around the neck and down the center front. The long sleeves have bead covered cuffs. The jacket has five gold buttons for its center front closure. It has a 2.75" wide beaded band at the hem, shoulder pads, and is completely lined in ecru silk. The jacket has a Bill Blass label. The collarless shell has the same colors and materials as jacket. It has a multicolored band around its neck. Its center back has an invisible zipper, and also has a beaded band around the armholes and the bottom hem. It is completely lined in ecru silk, and labeled Bill Blass. The slacks are white wool with two center front pleats, and straight legs with 1.5" cuff. The side opening has an invisible zipper, and hook-and-eye closures. The slacks have a white silk lining, and two loops for hanging. The slacks have a label that reads: Bill Blass; made in USA of Imported Fabric. This "tennis ensemble" is from the 1980 Bill Blass collection.

- Woman's two piece cotton dress with a black and white print design of small circles and flowers (white) on a black ground. The long, full skirt has a separate pannier that is attached at the waist back in back. A pleated and gathered overskirt is attached in the front, and on the side. The fitted top has long sleeves, a high neck with a small collar, and a small peplum bustle in the back. It buttons down the front with round black buttons. The top is lined. The shape of the bodice, and size of the waistband suggest it was maternity wear.

- This woman's eggshell satin wedding gown has an irregular length, with a scalloped hem that is lower in the back than in the front. It has long, straight sleeves that snap at their scalloped cuffs. The gown has a wide round neckline, and a dropped waist with scalloped piping. The gathered skirt is shirred with silk cord, and has a pearl bow positioned at its center front. A second pearl bow is also found at the left shoulder. The dress has a snap side closing. It was made at Pack-Wolin in Detroit, and worn by donor in 1926.
