- Liturgy O.C.S.O. was published by Gethsemani Abbey, Trappist, KY and edited by Father Chrysogonus Waddell from 1966-1999. The journal (at that time a newsletter) began after September 1965 meeting of the Liturgy Commission of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance to report progress in liturgical renewal after Vatican II. - French and British prisoners board a train at Cambrai bound for Germany and captivity. Many of these men have lost parts of their uniforms and have adopted civilian clothing. Many carry substantial belongings with them as they head for life in a prison camp.

- A group of French prisoners of war carrying their recent purchases march through the streets of Berlin under a German guard. These men probably gave their parole that they would not attempt to escape, which allowed them to shop in the city.

- Lottery ticket printed by the NSDAP in 1935. The ticket cost 1 Mark and the front has the German eagle and swastika. The back has a list of the terms of the lottery and also the list of available winnings. The lottery ticket is from the city of Munich.

- P. 272 "Mar Gabriel is a generous and noble, but still wild young man. His confinement, when he commenced learning English with us, soon proved intolerable to his restless spirit." For this portrait, Mar Gabrial wears a dark aba (Vogelsang-Eastwood, p. 11) over a bright blue caba (Shoberl 1845, p. 45) or qaba (Vogelsang-Eastwood, p. 10) trimmed in red and tied with a patterned girdle. His two toned blue and red headgear is loose, hanging slightly to one side of his head and has a tassel at the tip of the crown.

- Exterior of William McCracken Hall at the time of construction in 1949. It was used as a chemistry facility. The first building on West Campus, McCracken Hall was named after well-known faculty member, William McCracken, head of the chemstry department from 1907-1939. A Paper Industries Laboratory was added to McCracken Hall in 1959 to support the nation's second Paper Technology program. One wing was torn down in 2017. The building was demolished in 2019.

- Ten World's Alliance secretaries who worked in War Prisoners' Aid service in Bulgaria meet in a conference room with the Swiss and two Bulgarian flags draped on the wall behind them. The World's Alliance YMCA symbol is displayed on the wall above the flags. These men provided social services to Allied prisoners languishing in Bulgarian prison camps during the war.

- Austro-Hungarian troops execute blind-folded Serbian prisoners of war in a firing squad. These Serbian prisoners may have been irregular troops conducting a guerilla war against the Austro-Hungarian occupation forces. Under international law, irregular troops did not enjoy the same protections as regular troops.

Extensive water damage to binding and all leaves with significant loss of text., First folio and inner cover of an Arabic manuscript, possibly copied by Alhassan Ben Ali Ben Mansour Regraphi Aglaoui, wrapped in leather, worn at corners to show the pastedown “boards”. “Boards” are made of leaves from other manuscripts wrapped in leather. Text written in Arabic script with red rubrication., and 1 column of about 26-28 lines in unknown ruling, written in Arabic calligraphy.

Signed, “The mark of Penelope Warde” beside the slits for the parchment tag on the plica. Gift of Western Michigan University Department of History to WMU Special Collections in 1999.

- Lighthouse keeper logs for the South Pierhead Light, South Haven, Michigan, from 1872 to 1880, recorded by the first keeper William P. Bryan and the second keeper James S. Donahue. Bryan has one entry in 1872, with remaining entries completed by Donahue from 1874-1880. The entries are detailed and include information about the temperature, weather conditions, names and owner's names of some of the incoming vessels, and maintenance of the lighthouse. The journal records commerce and pleasure crafts passing in and out of the harbor. Donahue provided descriptions about shipwrecks, including the name of the ship and the fate of the crew. The journal measures 13-3/4 x 8-1/2 x 1-1/4, with marbled boards and edges, stamped "Light Station Journal" on spine, produced by the US Government Bindery.

The woodcuts of this piece are important because they have the initials of the engraver- a rare thing to see in early illustrated books. - This is the front page of the first edition of "The Barbed Wireless," a newspaper for American POW's at Rastatt, a German propaganda camp for Ukrainian prisoners of war (note that the price of the newspaper is in kopeks, the prison camp's currency). The newspaper focused on humor, as reflected on the two headline stories, and cartoons (the newspaper was mimeographed). The editors included sports scores and camp announcements, featuring YMCA activities.

- Russian sergeants and corporals enjoyed a higher standard of living in relation to the rank and file depicted in this drawing of a Russian non-commissioned officer's room in Muensingen. Not only does the non-commissioned officer have a single bed, wall cabinet, and desk, he has a number of musical instruments (a mandolin, balalaika, and accordion) and fans decorate the walls.

- An international orchestra composed of Allied prisoners performs under the direction of a German director in the prison camp at Wahn. The orchestra includes stringed, reed, and percussion instruments and the music stands appear to have been made in the camp. Musical performances helped improve camp morale and many musicians were internationally-renowned before the war.

The lazaret was located on the periphery of most camps and separated by fences so that in the event of the outbreak of a communicable disease, the ward could be more easily isolated from the general camp population.

- Prisoners enjoyed their meals in the hotel dining room in Bezau (Kreuzstein), which was vastly different from the mes halls that enlisted men used in Austrian captivity. The Orthodox cross on the back table suggests that the officers' mess might have served double duty as a chapel on Sunday mornings.
